New
website launched Welcome
to Mtunzini's own home-grown website. It's our
goal to develop an online newspaper which keeps
residents informed, involved and inspired.
Now more than ever, communities are required
to devote an extraordinary amount of their free
time to ensure a high standard of service and
Mtunzini is one of the few towns in the region
where residents feel relatively safe and can
take pride in their environment. A lot of the
credit for this situation is due to the hard
efforts of a group of energetic residents.
Mtunzini.co.za will highlight the commitment
of these individuals and organisations and hopefully
encourage more residents to make a vital contribution
to the quality of all our lives.
The website - which is a work in progress -
will also showcase the best that Mtunzini has
to offer and promote the region as one of the
finest tourist destinations in KwaZulu Natal. Watch this space!
www.mtunzini.co.za
is a 'work-in-progress' and not all the
pages may yet be online.

RECYCLING!
SPAR
comes on board Mtunzini's home-grown recycling
programme - known as the Orange Bag Project - is
here to stay, it just needs more residents to fill
their orange garbie bags with paper, cardboard,
plastic and cans.
And to help matters along, SPAR has come on board
by agreeing to sell the orange garbage bags at cost
price!

Annual Birding Weekend
scores full marks for Zini Birders
from all four corners of the country finished
the Mtunzini Birding Weekend recently with all
the 'specials' ticked off - and gave the Village
full marks for its conservation efforts.
The popular annual event - organised by Mtunzini
Conservancy - offers 24 birders an intense
three-day guided visit of the top local birding
sites - including Umlalazi
Nature Reserve, Twinstreams,
and oNgoye
and Dlinza
forests.
Steve Untiedt, who hosted the group at Twinstreams
Environmental Education Centre, said the birds
were on their 'best behaviour' that weekend and
all groups recorded a full scorecard of 'specials'
- including the rare mangrove kingfisher, green
barbet, narina trogon and the palmnut vulture.
The weekend also included a quiz evening with
enthusiastic local birder Duncan Prichard and
a talk and slide presentation by top birder and
Roberts Birds editor, Hugh Chittenden.
The feedback from all participants was full of
praise for the venue, the birding sites, the guides
and the pristine state of the Village.
'My major compliment to you all is the exceptional
way you all nurture and treasure the Mtunzini
environment,' wrote Nadine Twidale (née
Balcomb). 'As an old resident, it felt so good
to see the conservation efforts, and the whole
place looked like a jewel. It was uplifting for
me. THANK YOU!'

was great excitement as the birders on the annual
